Hi

I have just bought a 90, 300tdi yr. 1996. does anyone know what the fuel tank size is? the fuel gauge seems a bit dodgy and although i was in the red recently the fuel light didn't come on. is there anyway (other than running out) to see if the fuel light works? when i thought i really ought to fill it up i managed to put 44litres in to the brim. how close is that to the real capacity?

thanks a lot.

You will have a long wait for the low fuel warning light to come on, Most pre TD5 90's dont have one.

How many wires are conected to the sender unit ? if its 2 then you dont have a low fuel warning light, my 98 300TDI doesnt have one either

I ran my 200 out the other day and it took 51.32 litres.
That was only to first click though so will probably take a couple more litres.
I to was waiting for the fuel light to come on not realising it hasnt got one:D

Ha i posted the same question a week or so back also a 1996 300tdi 90, got a hundred different answers. after nearly running it out i got just over 50 litres in so id say its a 50litre tank + the pipe ect. dont wait for the fuel light to come on you dont have one. hope that helps.

thanks very much for all your helpful responses. how do i check how many wires are attached (i'm no mechanic!!) i can see on the dash where all the lights are that there is a little fuel pump light.

On my 1992 200TDi, the fuel light comes on when the glow plugs are doing their stuff but also when the fuel gets to the top on the red on the gauge. Perhaps that's a retrofit from its airport days though.

To check the sender unit on the tank, lift out the driver's seat cushion and remove the plate which is under it. That gives you access to the top of the tank - the sender unit is the circular thing with wires coming out of it.
