1995 p38 converted to 2006 supercharge sports! gone wrong..please help

Hi

Ok i had the bright idea of converting my 1995 dse p38 with the new model front..i went online (ebay) and managed to get the new shape front lights,grill, slam panal,bonnet wings and bumper for around £1400..not bad so far, then my mate in the body work shop put it together and sprayed it...it looks ok except a small alignment out of place on the wing and door...not that bad..

so any way, so far so good....except they had to swap the battery and the ECU box over to make the bigger chunkier lights fit..the car was running and got me home, except somthing was eating the battery..the dash board looks like a xmas tree..i have srs fault,alarm fault,airbag fault...so as a short term fix i bought a new heavy duty battery as the AA have refused to come out and jump me and not that many cars can start the truck on a cold day....

the major problem i have now is that the truck is over heating every 2 miles ish (red line) then i have to put around 2 gallons of water inside which as i see going in one end is jus flying out the other end in front of the rad somwhere near the fan...i had a look this morning to see if its a loose pipe but couldnt see much past the fan...it only realy started doing this out of the blue and didnt build up so im thinking maybe and hopfully a simple job....problem is where to start...i really dont wanna go to a garage as ive allready gone well over budget with the truck as it is..please help
 
nah, everything that was put on can come off again by original bolts...i got a complete slam panel so the wings lights grill and eveything else fits bolt on...the problem i have is the old loom isnt attachehed so a lot of the old sensors arnt connected so the trip computer is cominng up with faults...?? eeek
 
what old loom, youve attached all the original stuff from the original car havent you? everything should be as it was except for indicators lights and bonnet catch leads, these should have been spliced/plugs swapped if needed. everything in the ecu box needs to be the old/original stuff and relevant cables for lights etc need to be rewired to the new stuff!

The guys in the body shop told me they needed the new loom, but yeah they was able to get the new lights working on the old light loom so indicators main and side lights all work...the old bonnet catch is reattached...bits that are missing from what i can see is water bottle for wash wipers so cant clean windows yet, and some sensors for the SRS..also the airbag is failing...
 
Seems like a right cock up. As you will have read on here, the P38 is a right pain electronically at the best of times and no sensors where sensors should be is a recipe for disaster-financially, because if the sensors are reconnected, all the fault codes have to be checked & cleared. Not a simple case of the old fashioned "Hard wiring" through simple switches and relays. As for the Airbag sensors. that defies all logic. Now you have the job of getting the washers going as well, MOT fail plus an infringement. On the cooling side, check all the hoses are where they should be going and secured, then try bleeding the top small pipe to the rad. as per RAVE. Don't wish to sound negative but this conversion could finish up costing almost as much as if it had been done by Overfinch.:eek::bolt:
 
yeah i think ur right..i coulda got a complete car for just a bit more cash but ive learnt a lot by doing it this way i guess...ill check that top hose, but im not sure how to bleed the rad..? i was told i can get this mixture to mix in with the water that can block up any holes/cracks in rad...all the top hoses seem ok
 
One things certain, V8's don't like being overheated. I wouldn't use any leak stopper-in any event if it's losing as much as you say, then you should see it pi%^*ng out. New rad will set you back about £120 new off egay and is a lot cheaper than a new engine. Best of luck!!
 
Think the main question here is why would anyone spend £1400 on something worth not a lot more than £500.00 in the first place?
