just bought myself a 1995 DSE with 165K on the clock and loving it but as you guys will have probs guessed there are a few things here and they not working! So was wondering if any one can suggest a decent workshop manual to buy there seems to be loads over ebay or is good old haynes the best?

EAS surprise surprise! - it works but can be tempermental as in it wont always raise instantly. and sometimes it will rasie but the lights on the dash will stay on. Also the front end sinks to a height where there is no arch gap as a short while when the car is switched off is this normal?

cheers guys will put some pics but soon as i have just given it a wee clean

That's greats thanks very much I had wondered what this RAVE thing that people talk about was!

Any suggestions on the was front?
Cheers

Tired pump coupled with leaky springs and valve block. £350 or there abouts to have it running like new with new springs, valve block and compressor re-build.

As above and visit "rswsolutions" for good easy explanations of EAS with videos, then back to this site for posts on fitting air-bags, and many hours worth of argument about which make!! Also look up EKA and make sure you`ve got your`s.

Before you do anything else get the EKA number from a local L.R. main dealer.

There is alot of rubbish talked about the air suspension on these cars. Essentially it is a very logical system. Spend some time hunting and reading through previous posts on here and you will soon get the basics. Then, when you come to work on it, be prepared to stand back with a cuppa now and then and just work it out in your head.

Welcome.

p.s.

It's also a good idea to put some sort of home location on here. There are quite a few very helpful members in Scotland.

Mind you there was one stream of urine but we don't talk about him any more..

Front sinking is almost certainly airbags leaking, they have life of 7 to 8 years, after that they leak. If you don't fix them, it will shag the compressor if it hasn't done so already.

Go to www.rswsolutions.com downlad the free EAS software, buy a cable and you will set up to check out the EAS, assuming you have a laptop.
If you decide to have a go at changing the airbags yourself, I can send you a guide.

Hi again thanks for the advice guys been looking into replacing the air springs but could the leaking at teh front be due to the valve block? the reason by i say this is because i have heard the sort of loud poping noise but only when the car is running and I am positive that it came form teh valve block as I was opening the bonnet just as it happening once?

The poor valve block gets blamed for all kinds of problems. It is unlikely to be the cause of the front sinking. Look at the airline connections from it to the bags and the bags themselves first.

On here guys like DATATEK and WAMMERS are the ones that even experienced P38 owners listen to for technical advice and a logical approach to repairs.

Being a bit simplistic - The valve block is a lump of metal, under the bonnet, containing some valves and 'o' rings.
- The air bags are big rubber bags, underneath the car, exposed to everything that you drive through. They're flexed everytime you go over a bump, round a corner, load the car up, get in or out and then there's a switch on the dashboard that you can play with.

So - what do you think is more likely to give problems first?
Then, to investigate the valve block you've got to know what you're up to and then strip it down. To investigate the air bags, their connectors and pipework you just need to nick the Fairy liquid from the kitchen and spray everything with a soapy solution and look for bubbles.

Now do you understand why, if you're not certain, you're almost always advised to start your checks at the air bags.

:)
