hi i have a 4.6 hse which i have just brought with a over heating problem, so fitted new head gaskets skimmed heads, new thermostat, water system flashed through, compression tested 145 psi on all 8 and all held that psi for at least 10 min s , no bubbles in header tank. water pressure tested no drop and when engine started no rise in pressure, till water started to get hot and not by a great deal, viscous fan seams to be fine ,new header tank cap fitted and with electric fans , still gets hot.
the temp gauge stays in the middle for about ten mins, then starts to rise quick , hoses get hard , then starts to blow out of cap water temp at that stage is 95 degrees. any idea s would be a great help. thanks again jeremy.

i looked at a 4.6 for a friend he did same as you and put engine sealer in it still did it.Check you are getting a return to the header tank through the thin pipe, his was blocked,i changed radiator and it fixed the problem.

I took the top off his old radiator and it was full of the sealer he had used so i would not use it.

Lets hope its not a cracked block....

thanks again for reply.i hope the block is ok after all that bloody work to do head gaskets
. as its past all test so far you would think liners ,block are fine. but water pipes do go solid with pressure and when water in red it just blows water out of cap. i am going to buy a sniff test. the previous owner put all sorts in the water system to try and fix. so a new rad is a must.i have been recommended to use that glass copper ceramic sealer. so will any way. thanks again any ideas what ever throw my way.
jeremy

use the sealer before new rad as it will block the new rad! and i would use the ceramic stuff as once its cured it stays put so will not knacker your rad, the other stuff with copper in shifts a bit and will block the rad if it does!

Others will disagree but I would only use that sealant **** as an absolute last resort (even then its only delaying the inevitable if its a cracked block), I've seen it gunge up everything

thanks for every ones help, i am going to order a new rad , because i still think if it was a liner shift or cracked block it would show up some where in the test i have done, and if block is cream cracker ed, i new rad would be a good idea any way, is there any reason if i get top hat liners, that i cant use old pistons with new rings. has any body got an idea on cost to get top hats fitted to my block which would be stripped down. and anybody got an idea who will do the job right but won t rip me off. thanks jeremy

Should be able to get top hats fitted for 800 (think thats what v8 developments charge), think it was wildcat (sp) who do them for 600 but have a long waiting list. thats assuming you can remove/strip/refit yourself though...

Good luck with the rad
