Hi All,

I'm looking at purchasing a 1995 110 landrover that has the old turbo diesel engine fitted.

Am I right in thinking, at that age it would originally had a 200tdi perhaps even the 300tdi engine fitted?

Many thanks

Chris

Apparently its the old 19J turbo diesel engine

See what you think?

LANDROVER 2.5 TD 110 UTILITY | eBay

i think it is way overpriced since it has a broken engine.

i think the chassis has been patched and that it's been covered over, so you need to check it all with a hammer.

that the engine is very odd for the age, i'd be checking it isn't an old one nicked and stuck on some newer plates.

Should it not have some period fittings too, things like the more modern steering wheel etc?

if it was a late 80's one then it wouldn't have the push button doors, or have newer door cards, it should have a ribbed roof, wouldn't have indicators in the wings, bulkhead wouldn't have the wiper system like that

but you know, doors rot and newer replacements added.

it's got the old school exp tank.. not sure when that was phased out?

looks like drums on the back as well. 300's dropped drums iirc.

it could just be a bitsa.

i'd be wanting to scrape the paint off the dumb iron and check the vin

That's much older. It's got the old 'Landrover 110' sticker on it, also interior wise it's older style Defender (steering wheel, etc), and underbonnet it is too, I would say that's a pre 1991 110 (so pre Defender technically) that has for some reason been registered later.

The 'respray' is rubbish, and just a blow over.

Over priced and something isn't right about it. Be useful to check the VIN to see the build date.

Nothing really "adds up" does it?

I could ask for the VIN no I guess? It's local to me, so must be worth a look?

Thanks for the impartial though...

89ish had that style doors/door cards. My 1992 Defender has the late style (black with screw lid) expansion tank so I think the early style tank was phased out when the 200tdi was introduced in 1991.

have a look, get the vin from the chassis dumb iron not the plate in the engine bay.

i've found quite a few bargains up here, i'd probably only pay 600-800 if it was legit as it's a total bitsa.

its got pre defender windscreen hinges too,
They dont SAY it was a 300 in the description, typo maybe and supposed to be 1985??

It's on a 'M' (1995) plate you can see on one of the pics.

I agree though it's far more likely to be an '85 Landie.

ah right, my 86 has the pull up handles and the old style trim, also had that exp tank.

you can't see it in the pic, but my power steering resiviour was the round metal type, not the plastic type.

it does feel to me that it's an older landy with some bits chucked on and a much later reg added.

don't know why anyone would do it apart from being nicked or they've rebuilt it from parts and needed a donor id. either way it sounds a bit dodgy

rear Xmember looksmlike a replacement.
every thing else shouts pre defender to me, ringer???

Vents above rear door.
Steering Wheel
Windscreen Hinges
Wings
Engine/Engine bay.

you can just about read the VIN on one of the photos.

mind you, i'd expect the plate to have been swapped from the donor
