Hi all,
After 20 years of driving, I recently decided to grab a 94 discovery (300 TDI)
Anyway, as a newbie I've been updating my brain with all things land rover, but have an issue with the power steering pump assembly? It's not running exactly in line with the rest of the belt? It seems to be protruding about 4mm towards the fan? This of course shredded the belt about a week ago, but I just pushed the thing back in line (using a bar) and put a new belt on it..
This all seemed fine for a while until I noticed today that the pulley has moved forward slightly on the shaft again?? I'm guessing it's maybe knackered (there is also a squeak coming from the belt or pulleys somewhere)

Is there any way to test this, or should I just replace it? I'm fairly ok at working on cars and keen to learn more, but it don't want to bugger it up?!

The jeep I've kinda fallen in love with will NOT beat me!
Any advice would be appreciated ;-)

Thanks..

Ps.. Yes, I've checked all the bolts and they're tight!

either the pumps knackered allowing the rotor to shift forward, or the boss is loose on the shaft.
the boss is a press fit, so either case its probably a new pump job.
or manufacture a new boss to press on.

I fitted a new pump on mine at the weekend, if you have not done it before you need a thin 32mm spanner to be able to take the viscous coupling and fan off this allows you access to the bolts on the pump. Also need some hose clamps to stop the fluid going everywhere when you disconnect the hoses from the pump or alternatively just completley drain the system and replace the fluid, chances are its not been done for ages anyway.

Its a pretty easy job once you have the correct tools.
