1993 Disco1 3.5 efi "hunting" on tickover

hello all,bolted to the nearside jack storage platform,is what I can only describe as a cistern ball,with two outlet points.One has a rubber pipe going to the plenum chamber, while the other doesnt have any pipe on it.the only pipe I can think may have come off it,runs paralell to the bonnet release cable,uder the washer bottle,and then through the bulkhead,and inside the passenger compartment,wher it is long enough to reach the centre door post,but I cant find anything that it connects to. could this be a vacuum pipe,affecting the dodgy tickover,or does the cistern ball thing,only have the one pipe goijg to the plenum chamber.The reason I am asking,is I may have dislodged a vacuu pipe,when unbolting the air filter assembly,in order to cut the old rotten inner wing out.There is no mention of the ball thing in any of the 3 manuals that I have, any help appreciated,Thanks,Phil.

You may have a leaky hose !! Any vacuum leak will affect mixture. Causing poor starting , eratic idle .

I would have a guess what you are talking about is a vacuum accumulator, one pipe connects to plenum to get vacuum, the other pipe should go to the vac operated valve thing on the heater assembly or at least that's how it is on a RRC.

thanks Kev, havnt checked it yet,but I a sure you are right,as there is nowhere else inside the car that it can connect to,I must have dragged it off the heater valve while fitting a nrw windscreen,and couldnt figure out where it goes,regarding the rough running,I have today found that the plastic t piece in the breather pipe that runs across the top of the engine was also broken,so having just been for a new one,hopefully with everything connected up ,things will be ok,but nowhere in any of the 2 manuals and workshop dvd I have does it mention the accumulator,so your help is much appreciated,Thanks,Phil.
