1992 classic range rover

Help, my classic Range rover drains the battery, headlights stopped working, not fuse or switch. Engine knock of some sort started yesterday. Bit of oil in water but no water in oil, could it be head gasket. It's 3.9 auto with gas conversion, up to now has run really well. Help.

Thank you, not very good on these sites, hadn't figured out how to put it in the right place, but will try again. Love my range (the beast) but she has a few niggles!!! Cheers Jackie

Welcome to the Zoo. Unfortunately it sounds as if the mechanical bell is tolling on your RRC. You may have a bad alternator so your battery isn't charging properly, or corroded connections between the alternator and battery, including the earth.

The clonk in the engine doesn't sound encouraging. Has it overheated recently?

Alternator good, if used every day stays charged, leave it for a week and goes flat. New battery. Trouble started when headlights packed up last year, side lights work, main beam works when pull stalk back. Don't know if there's a relay for headlights. Think it's electrics somewhere, but it's a minefield!!! Engine has never overheated, but there is a small amount of oil in the header tank, not getting any worse and been like this since I bought it 2 years ago. x
