I bought this beauty off a forum member as I lost patience waiting for my other project which is in for a chassis change. I might only keep it until that is ready, but I am happy to document faults here so as not to deceive potential buyers.

It needs a few improvements so I will track them here and hopefully people can help with suggestions.

If you don't mind this is not a for sale thread I just want to list everything I found as I went through the vehicle.

  • 2nd row door fixed window glass missing - been quoted £60 for a new pane, so will be looking out for a used on.
  • Fuel and temp gauge read maximum all the time, battery gauge reads zero - after reading about this type of problem on the forum I believe its an earth fault behind the dash so I have booked a tame auto electrician for Monday.
  • Exhaust is attached with a coathanger to the mud flap.
  • Home-made tree sliders are attached to ali-sill panel brackets, not ideal.
  • Needs oil change. I might actually do this myself!
  • Might remove and sell roof rack to put the money into the repairs.
  • NAS lights look good, I might swap them onto my V8 when its done, but I think all of them looks too much - depends on the lighting output.
  • Rear cross member is not bad - most of the chassis is OK although the gearbox crossmember has taken a heavy wack.
  • The wheels I probably will swap onto my V8, as its chrome modulars are a bit rusty.
  • The roof has a sunroof and alpine lights, I might swap these onto my V8 that has a plain roof, after I have leak-tested it.
  • All 4 passenger doors are terrible, with frames badly rusted. I think I will keep an eye out for used doors although I did briefly consider getting SP galvanised doors and getting them vinyl-rapped in the closest colour.
  • The front bulkhead is not great on the door pillars.
  • It has a radiator muff which will be up for sale at some point.
  • It has an updated front bumper and the front light bar is really nice, but I might also put them up for sale and return to standard.
  • Mud stuff dash I might remove this and put into my V8.
  • If I could remove the snorkel I would sell it I don't think it suits a CSW. But I will have a look and see what that takes.
  • The unnecessary vent cover on the wing might get removed.
  • The Mud snow cowl probably up for sale, my solution is to brush off the snow before getting in.
  • Has a rather smart Masai steering guard. Up for sale soon!

  • 2nd row door fixed window glass missing - been quoted £60 for a new pane, so will be looking out for a used on.Still looking!

  • Fuel and temp gauge read maximum all the time, battery gauge reads zero. Turns out a prev owner blew the gauges converting to LED backlights. I confirmed this by replacing the temp and voltage gauge. I now have a fuel gauge to go on as well.

  • Exhaust is attached with a coathanger to the mud flap. Shelled out for some welding to resolve the mounts

  • Home-made tree sliders are attached to ali-sill panel brackets, not ideal.I want to put this back to standard sills but I haven't done it yet. Might look for some used ones

  • Needs oil change. Changed the oil and filter and it has been running nicely

  • Rear cross member.Had a new rear crossmember welded on and sort out the back end

  • gearbox crossmember Fitted a spare gearbox crossmember I had from the old chassis on my other 110

  • The roof has a sunroof and alpine lights, I might swap these onto my V8 that has a plain roof, after I have leak-tested it. Roof leaks on both my 110s. No surprise there.

  • All 4 passenger doors are terrible, with frames badly rusted.Going to get the doors repaired as the MOT is coming up and the passenger front door opening by bending the door skin is not really a win

  • The front bulkhead is not great on the door pillars.Verdict on front pillars is good. No welding necessary. Issue was with door - see above

  • Wheels, Roof rack, NAS rear lights, Radiator muff, updated front bumper and front light bar, Mud stuff dash, Snorkel, vent cover on wing. Mud snow cowl, Masai steering guard. Funny how things change, except the muff these can all stay put. Why do people buy so many bolt on bits and ignore basic maintenance? All the add ons on this truck must have cost a bit, but will also be cost & hassle to return to standard. I will focus on getting it through the MOT with all the embellishments and just use it. Keep it simple!

The biggest job has been getting the front axle rebuilt as everything except the diff was very poor, so new chrome balls, discs, calipers, pads, bearings.

It will be nice when its done, just don't tell Mrs how much this stuff costs.
