1990 Range Rover V8 3.9 EFI Auto No Reverse?

Hi All, I have an old range rover that will select every gear but reverse? has anyone else ever had this issue or does someone know the fix ?
 
Assuming fluid level correct?
And that the selector is able to select all positions & there's no issue at the gearchange lever on the gearbox end of the cable?

From my manual:
Test 2
Symptom: No drive in reverse
Select '1'. If no engine braking Fault in Clutch Brake 'D'
Select 'D'. If vehicle drives forward the Fault is reverse gear interlock valve seized.

I've no idea how to fix it. Guessing it's something to do with the valve block?
You'll need a manual if you want to start taking the box apart/removing & replacing the valve block & there is a special tool LST109 (looks like it sets a gap) for positioning the valve block
 
Sometimes the circumstances leading up to a fault can help with the diagnosis.
You say that you 'have' an old Rangie; is it a new purchase/has the fault just occurred/been present for some time etc ?
I'm well familiar with these ZF boxes (owned 4 RRC's) but wouldn't dream of going beyond checking the fluid level; if no-one on here can help I suggest you have a word with Ashcrofts.
 
I've had various sections of mine apart but the manual is absolutely essential & it's a very good idea to take lots of photos as you go.

Cleanliness is vital & each part needs to be thoroughly cleaned as there will be a build-up of very fine dirt - wear off the various friction plates - & your disturbing it will see it moved around the box when you refill it.
Ashcroft's highlight this dirt as an issue with fluid & filter changes on the ZF as it gets caught in the governor & shifting problems then occur - so much so that they suggest that routine fluid & filter changes aren't necessarily a good idea as this often manifests after a change due to the new fluid having a detergent effect & stirring up settled deposits.
That said, problems can be down to low fluid & blocked/partially filters so if you have a problem you have nothing to lose.

If you are going to remove the box then I can also recommend making the adapter plate shown in the manual & drill it to match up with your trolley jack. They are big heavy awkward items & you don't want to try balancing it on just a trolley jack. I removed mine with the transfer box still attached.
