1989 90 - Steering Wheel

Hi,
New to this forum so not sure if this is in the right area. I drove a Defender 110 yesterday and liked the smaller steering wheel, so want to now change my existing 90 large steering wheel for the Defender smaller one, can this be done ? Does any one know the spline count for the 90(1989) versus the Defender ?

No this has never been done before………….EVER!

Hi Jon.... your 90 will have 36 splines. The later 'soft' steering wheel on the defender has 48 splines, so it's not a direct swap. The even newer (Td5 onwards??) steering wheel that has a big bulge in the centre that looks like an airbag but isn't, are a mix of 36 or 48 splines (IIRC the higher-spec models were 48, with lower spec 36) - good eh?

As an alternative, the 200tdi Disco steering wheel is 36 splines, as are the earlier RR wheels.
