Hello,
I am looking to replace the bulkhead on my 1989 LT77 gear boxed 110. I have had a look at Busters excellent threads on getting various bits off. I have had a search of various similar themed threads re-bulkhead replacement and tried to follow links to various refurb's / ebay shops etc. some still work, some don't.
I am based in Leeds and essentially have two options;
1) Buy a refurb'ed galvanised BH and fit it myself
2) Take the old one off, get it repaired and then galvanised and then fit it myself.

I have heard / seen a number of threads on the second option being full of pitfalls - the main one being BH warping on dipping.

So has anyone got a recommendation for a galvaniser in the Leeds / West Yorkshire area ( would consider travelling further afield ) who could galvanise a repaired bulkhead please?

Or has anyone, close-ish to West Yorkshire, got a refurb'ed bulkhead lurking in the back of their shed for a project that never used it and would consider selling it on?

many thanks for any help in advance,

Richard

I think the phrase 'get it repaired' possibly answers your question. Are you paying somebody else to repair/weld it up? If so, the cost of this plus the galv will soon add up. It might be easier to source a replacement, and swap everything over, then sell your B/H to recoup some of the cost.

When I rebuilt my 90 I ummed and aaaahed about distorted repaired and galved bulkheads, so fitted a NOS TD5 ungalved bulkhead....since then I've seen bulkheads supplied by Ashtree and really regret not using one.......unless you are good at welding and fabbing, by the time you have sent yours to someone else to get repaired then found someone to galv it, you may as well buy one already done and sell your old one when the job is done.....it may be possible to have your bulkhead refurbed by Ashtree, so it retains its original one, although there will obviously be a delay in the rebuild while its being done.....although if the bulkhead needs replacing chances are there will be plenty of other things to keep you occupied!
