Just fitted recon gearbox in my 200tdi converted 110, she’s been stood for a couple of months and now wipers won’t work on any speeds. Fuse seems fine and screen wash still working so I took the cover off the motor and they started working so left them running with the wiper arms raised while I put the dash back together thinking all was well. Now not working again anyone any ideas, thanks chris

Spookily I had the same problem with my 1986 110 yesterday, They had been getting progressively slower, but they stopped mid sweep, but importantly, they didn't blow the fuse, so they couldn't have been drawing much current. When I did push them they did move with assistance, so the motor was working but not at full power.
I removed the cover of the motor, the cylinder bit held on with two long bolts, and found that the brushes were getting worn down a bit. I cleaned up the commutator with a bit of emery paper and all is working properly for the time being, but a new brush plate is on order from flea-bay.

Ok cheers for that help, I’ll have a look at the motor tomorrow will try running a wire from the battery straight to the motor also to rule out a faulty motor, which colour wire do I need to run 12v too ?

Ok thanks, I have thought of replacing the wiper mechanisms as the wipers were starting to get sluggish anyway. Is genuine Land Rover stuff the way to go or is all makes/bearmach stuff any use? Thanks Chris

One problem I have found is when wipers get slow/stiff and the fuse blows folk put in a bigger fuse.In the end if left on long enough things get hot and melt. Another problem is the bush at the bottom of the motor getting dry.

If you take the cover off the motor for any reason it pays to replace it with the long screws finger tight. Then run the motor whilst nipping the screws up. It’s very easy to jam the whole thing up.

From memory, there is an earth fixing by the motor somewhere.
Mine played up when that was bad. Think it's a brass ring terminal and mine had gone green and furry.
