Is the L box worth £100 more than the J ???

It explains it on Ashcrofts site, it's basically stronger with two extra bearings.

then that would be a yes if you intended to keep it for years and do green laneing and pay and play sites

it hasnt , it does have larger bearings on input shaft front and lay shaft center like k suffix, the other bearings are the same as all r380s and lt77s ,the gear teeth are shot peened on l suffix and so gears are much stronger/durable

Ah, the castings are stress relived then before machining.
