Evening Gents,

After reading the below thread

I thought I would tell you about my fleebay 1977 90  bargain.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120578191427&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

£1200 later and two weeks of waiting, IT landed.

I'm not up on landies fully but I do know what a 88" looks like because I had one. This was no 88" and the kind lads on LR4x4 confirmed it for me.

Alarm bells started ringing BIG TIME. Had I been done up like a kipper? Hummmm.

Landy came with a mot & tax plus I hpi checked it when I bought it. All that don't mean ****, I couldn't even insure it. The v5 stated it was a 1977 88" that had been rebuilt in 1995 using new & used parts.

HELLO:doh: the only thing that was a 88" was the reg number and a copy vin plate that had the number dremeled on it.

So the next day my mate who's a traffic cop came over to see it, Yes it was all 90. The chassis had it's number ground off and the wrong vin plate...BOLLOCKS:doh: . My mate told me to contact the local old bill as it was out of his area.

That night a police sgt turned up at home. He confirmed it was a 90 and he was going to cease the vehicle and get the stolen car unit to look over it.

Well a month later I get a visit from the police sgt , my heart was in my mouth thought I was going to get dragged away. GOOD NEWS not one part of the vehicle is nicked so I could have it back. They couldn't get the number off the chassis to check that. The examiner did say that the vehicle was in really good nick and had been rebuilt.

How did a vehicle with a odd past, wrong vin plate, plus a ground off chassis number get an mot?

Now this is the strange bit.

I have been told by the police I can drive the landy on the 1977 number plate..:doh::doh: WTF it's a 90 not a 3 series. I may as well get my other half's X5 and stick a M3's number plate on it, but it's OK it's a bmw.

I'm going down the route of finishing doing her up, then contact the local dvla office to see where I stand if I get an age related plate or they give it a Q plate.

I wonder how many other landys are out there with the same problems.
The lass I bought mine off only had it for a week and said her daughter didn't like it. More like she **** herself when she bought it and thought better get rid quick.

Have any of the reg's on here had a IVA done on their landys?

Cheers Lads
