1976 Series 3 or 1985 Defender?

Ok guy's and gal's, I need some input from you lot.
After I got my MOT on Saturday I was shown a 1985 defender that is up for grabs, it has sat in the barn for about a year after it failed its MOT(what it failed on I dont know yet) this defender is on a Galv chassis, I will know more on Monday as what it failed on and how much he is wanting for it, and then ill have a good look around it later in the week if its not a silly amount.
but what i want know are your thoughts which would be better to keep,
my 1976 which will need a rebiuld at some time or do I go for something that is already on a galv chassis, I know you guys will rip the **** a bit or a lot but some feed back on the early defenders would be usefull before I jump in feet first again lol

The coiler will be slightly more comfy but otherwise the level of hard work, skinned knuckles and cash input is probably about the same.

I have a 1972 ( tax free

) Lightweight ( with 2.5 diesel in her ). I was offered the chance to buy a Defender ( for a lot less than I paid for the Lightweight !! )...but with both on my driveway, I chose to keep the Lightweight as it is purely for taking dogs out ( not dogging, I may add ! ) fishing etc. The 90 just didn't do it for me - so now just sold it !

keep the series, i wanted a defender (may still get one - but will still keep series)... fallen in love all over again....... plus its much classier

Got an '84 110. What you see is what you get! Much will depend on the state of it...and amount of work needed for mot etc. Might be a chance to make a quick buck when the snow returns!

I would always go for the series every time, a series is for life ! ! ! you'll be able to rebuild it time and time again.
