Hello all, new member here with a problem that has me scratching my head.

Several weeks ago, I was out on a day trip in my Series 2a. After pulling off the road for a stop, my engine refused to restart. The electrics seemed to be working fine, as the starter was turning, but the engine refused to fire. After being towed home, I began the trouble shooting process.

The first thing I did was replace the points and condenser. After doing this, the engine would start, but was running extremely rough.

Next, I removed and rebuilt the carb. I also replaced the fuel filter with a new unit at this time, along with inspecting and blowing out all fuel lines between the fuel tank and carb. These steps seemed to make no difference in the way the engine was running.

Next, I replaced the fuel pump, and the coil. Again, this seemed to make no difference.

This is as far as I have got, but I am running out of ideas as to what the problem could be. After sitting for an extended period of time, the engine seems to start quite well. However, it's behavior after starting seems to be completely random. Sometimes it idles well, sometimes it idles very rough. Sometimes it revs well, sometimes it bogs out and dies when applying throttle. Still other times, it will rev well and maintain revs for a short period of time, but then randomly dies while at revs higher than idle. Still other times it runs well enough to drive around the block a few times, but after running smoothly for a period of 5 to 15 minutes, it will either die or go back to running very rough.

The only other things that I can think of to check are the ignition switch, along with the distributor cap and rotor. After that, I am out of ideas as too what the problem could be.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you for your time :)

Ask Doc Evil he is good with them

Have you checked/replaced the condenser in the distributor?

If that is breaking down you will get the described symptoms.

Also make sure that the points are insulated at the pivot and spring.

Hope this helps.

By the way :welcome2:
