Bumper came off to be rust treated and painted, so wasn't there to fend off the tree stump  The flash makes that rust look worse, but I'll still treat it. Will have to pop down to work and get some Hammerite direct to rust stuff.

Most certainly a labour of love! I too have a list of problems as long as my arm but Rome wasn't built in a day. The urge to bolt on roof lights, a snorkel and a steering guard are there but I feel a good service is needed first! Plus I'd best save for a set of modulars. The current tyres are in fact older than I am so are probably due a change!!

I do miss the Freelander Hippo, but that one particularly was never destined to stray from the tarmac. It was far far too clean and tidy! At least it went to a good home to be loved.

Yeah the bump happened whilst laning the other night, was only out for about 25 - 30 minutes. Heard a sudden phhwack and then saw the tree stump. Woops. Straightened it out now though :)

I take it the horn doesn't usually hang down there?

It's better than mine when I took the bumper off

And you're only playing at dents:eek:

Keep an eye on ebay for wheels and tyres, I picked up a set of alloys for £68 as some people don't list them very well and have strange end times

The rad looks a bit iffy. Did it get hit as well?

Yeah it does, wasn't caused by any stray branches though. Well not all of it. It holds water and keeps the engine at running temperature, so for now there's no need to worry. :)

No the horn was unbolted to gain access to two bolts to remove that panel. Awkwardly placed.

eBay can be good for that sort of thing! I remember bidding on a BMW 3 series at 2am once and won it for £330. Still had MOT and everything!

Thanks for the heads up ;)

Right, things will soon be gaining momentum. For now anyway. :p

Here's the current state of affairs.

And here's what I spent 12 hours driving for on Friday.

Which also came with an ex MOD front mount oil cooler!

Also with the full exhaust, a spare radiator, the intercooler, fuel filter bowl, etc etc. Ordered two new engine mounts, a new clutch slave cylinder and clutch release fork. More for piece of mind rather than needing to be replaced.

Hoping to do it in the next week or so, we shall see. :)

200tdi conversion took a mere 2 and a half days work, not bad for someone who's never pulled an engine out before. Only snag was when I wired up the starter backward, so the car had no power and I panicked I'd trapped a wire somewhere haha. Running nice and smoothly now however.

In the grand scheme of LR conversions, it's not exactly an uncommon or difficult one to do, but I'm proud nonetheless. :)

Looks good to me, engine looks in good nick too - externally at least.

Why the MOD cooler? I see you've replaced the rad so how come you didn't just use one with a built in oil cooler?

Came with the engine, thought it more hassle to swap over the oil cooler hoses from the 19J than to use the MOD one that was already plumbed in. Plus it meant I didn't have to drain the oil as it was left in from the previous owner.

Plus I guess I like the look :p

Can't see the images....

Seem to be fine for Retro and I, working now?
