Quick question, I have come across these which say they fit upto a 2006 but is that incorrect based on the advice earlier in this thread??

1997 - 2006 FREELANDER SET OF 4 235/75R15 15" ALLOY WHEELS & TYRES ALL TERRAIN | eBay

They're unlikely to fit.

There are three reasons.

Firstly 235/75s will hit the front suspension spring cups and possibly will foul the rear plastic arch liners. 235/55 is the safe max without spacers, in my opinion to allow tyre flex on cornering, not that will be much flex on those chunky knobbly Kumhos.

Secondly you have a 50/50 chance of them clouting the calipers as they dont say what age of vehickle they came from and i dont see any signs of the dimples which are usually evident on a later 'big brakes' wheel.

These tyres were probably not fitted on those wheels or even on the same vehicle originally anyway and the 'gentlemen of salvage' have just fitted a few big tyres on four rims they had handy as it'ds coming up for winter.

Thirdly, even if you found some spacers and bolted them on - the imbalance in tread depths would mean that you were running the risk of damage to your drivetrain.

Very risky to play Russian Roulette with the IRD and / or VCU and rear diff.

Keep looking mate.

Thanks bud that's exactly the info I was after and appreciate your honesty. Since finding those I have come across brand new modulars 16x7" in black which I think will be ideal and they ae listed to fit a Freelander. If I bought those then guessing I would have a fair choice of AT tyres that would fit??

Just in case it helps to be sure -

16 Inch X 7 Inch 5-114 Black Modular Wheel For Freelander - 4x4 Tyres

Singvogel - do you have a build thread or diary of mods you have done to yours? Just reading your sig and there is some interesting stuff listed, would be good to have a read.

Those look to be a very practical, strong wheel - but I have no experience of modulars at all, so can't really comment further.

I don't understand why they say they are for Freelanders from 2000 to 2003 though.

Sorry no build thread or mod diary - but if you have any questions about what I've put in the sig strip you can always send me a PM.

Could someone do me a quick favour to reassure me -

Found a set of secondhand 16" wheels which are pretty local to me and tentatively agreed a deal on them if I collect today. Could you have a look at item number - 221144997907 and confirm they are suitable for my 2004 TD4 Sport??

Hi,

Well I'm not so sure they will fit. I would be reluctant to take a chance myself.

They are missing the 'dimples' between the stud holes that would assure me it comes from a post 2002 car. The dimples are not a 100% guide to age as a very few later wheels have no dimples (depended on LR's OE source at the time) but I've never heard of one with dimples which did not come from a later car.

The seller makes no mention of age.

Obviously most 2nd hand wheels are coming from older vehicles.

Check this link which shows the 'dimples' clearly - although not on that style of 5-spoke Freedom wheel. All of my 6-spoke 17" Freedom wheels have dimples.

Freelander Alloy Wheels : The Wheel Warehouse Inc., Your Source for Factory Original Rims - Call us at (800)941-6400

We need more folks to tell us if they have the dimples or not and which year. A big survey / poll needed for that I think.

Sorry I cant be more re-assuring.

I've got 235/65/15 on mine and they have caught a little bit here and there but not always so 235/55/15 would really be the safe limit lol

I fitted my 2" lift and got exited so I went out on search for at tires ASAP and the 1st garage I came to only had this size in stock for a 15" wheel they wer general grabber at2 so I had to have them lol

Really I should have waited and bought online and got some nice 16" modulars! never mind when I need new tires I'm gonna get a wheel and tire package!

Hi guys I am new to all this Forum lark. What sort of money should I be expecting to pay for set of 16" rims for Freelander Sport 2004 to replace 18" rims? I did not do my homework before I bought it, no idea that I had such a limited choice of tyres on 18" rims.

Just looking through more posts - should I be looking for 17"? I just need decent cross country tyres for my vehicle, not fussed about which rim size - just want to know what to do!!
