anyone fitted high watt bulbs to their Rangie?

got a mate with a 2000 Rangie who wants to fit 130w  bulbs to the front fogs......
I assume that they are BECM??? driven as most things are, so will the system take the extra load, or would you recommend LED?

is it a 483 or 453 bulb that is fitted?

I wouldn't even think of trying that as a direct load, even the wiring might not stand it never mind the MOSSFETS in the BECM. Need to use a relay with a direct fused feed from the battery for the bulbs.

I take it your mate has a night vision problem, either that or he hates other motorists.

thanks Datatek - that would be OK - useing the BECM to trigger a relay?

would that be a relay for each light? I am not familiar with the wiring on these .

Can't see any point in 2 relays. If triggered from the BECM, the feature will have to be turned on if it is not currently used and he will probably get a bulb failure message unless shunt resistors are fitted.

There are 2 connectors behind the bumper, one for each fog light, use either one to drive the relay.

still not sure i understand, DT....
i assume both lights go back to the BECM, so breaking one wire to trigger the relay - ok, but if the other light is driven from that relay, wont the BECM think there is a bulb out?

So just high wattage bulbs in the existing fogs? They will melt but just use one connector to drive the relay and then both bulbs off one 30 amp relay. As I said at the begining it may flag up a bulb failure as the relay will not give enough load from the coil and the other side will not be connected. You would need to use shunt resistors to stop that on both connectors.
