I currently have a 90, however in a few years time I would like a 130 if possible, ideally the camper or expedition models. How rare or common are 130s and what is a realistic price for them, also what engine models do they usually have? Lastly is the 130 the one that sometimes is 6x6? That many wheels just seems like a cool thing to have... Thanks

They made 130s for quite a while so they come with whatever engine was in Land Rovers at the time - 200, 300 and TD5 mostly. The six wheelers were usually aftermarket conversions, and a look at the chassis will generally show how it has been cut and plated to accommodate the two axles. If you're buying one, if I were you I'd be very interested in the quality of the welding and the design of the plating because it might have been done with more enthusiasm than skill. There's also usually a propshaft 'repeater' on the intermediate axle to enable the back axle to be driven.

It's not the best looking thing ever, but it's great that you can leave the motorhome part at the campsite and have a Defender to drive around.
Best of both worlds....easier than a caravan and less restricting than a motorhome.
Accommodation part is a bit small though, but l guess you can't have everything.

I could be wrong, but that doesn't look like a standalone camper to me.

If I was to convert a 130 to 6x6 would it be possible to put 4 wheel steer on it? If that could be done on the front and back wheels I would be heavily tempted to try a conversion if I get a 130. That camper 130 on ebay looks nice but am dubious about interior space.

The advert says it is a "Ranger Demountable Camper Unit" but there's no pictures of it "demounted" from the Land Rover.

I googled Ranger Motorhomes (looks like they are based in the North West of England) but their website gives little away, only suggesting that you phone "Simon" for further details of their products.

Anything is possible, but 4 wheel steering would be quite a piece of engineering. I'd like to see it done, but not drive it.

You can think around £10K+ for a 6x6 conversion on a 130 (you provide) , and that would be without rear steer , and is just the chassis work , have a look at Foleys Specialist vehicles.
