I have rewired my 12 v socket straight to the cars battery works fine with cb pluged in but iv noticed the fuse has melted.

Fag lighter sockets are crap and are not rated for constant loads. Get yourself a 20A DIN connector. or try the new anderson "Powerpole connectors." I'll be buying a load of them and using them on all my gadgets and chargers etc.
