I've made up a 12v socket loom using a 30amp fused relay. Used relays plenty of times so its pretty straightforward to me. Everything was done properly and I'd tested it in the house numerous times with a 12v battery with it working perfectly every time. Wired it into the 90 however and everytime I stick the cigarette lighter in to try it out it blows the fuse. I can't for the life of me figure out why as everything is wired up fine and exactly as it was when I tested it in the house. Any ideas?

Smaller fuse ie 10 amp and some cig connection plugs short out in sockets

Well I call it a 12v socket but it is a cigarette lighter. It will only be used for charging my phone anyway. Relay had a 30amp fuse and this was blowing every time. Tried wiring a 25amp fuse into the positive cable and it blew this first before then blowing the fuse in the relay. As I've said it worked perfectly the dozen or so times I tried it in the house so I'm a bit confused

Shouldn't be fecked  its new and I don't understand how it can work perfectly one minute then just give in for no reason. Relay is powering fine.

Pikey what do you mean reference insulation?

If it's out like most fag sockets the live spade terminal is mounted to a small plastic insulator. to keep it separate from the chassis of the socket.
