110 transmission problems

I have a 1987 land rover 110 which drove all bar last 1/4 mile from shropshire to saffron walden... where it lost drive, it would go into any gear pull off but loses drive after few turns of wheels... stood up on driveway for 3days untouched, pulled away and drove three - five blocks before losesing drive... anyone got an idea what's wrong with my workhorse?..

can you smell burnt clutch ,remove pto cover off the back of transfer box and check input and mainshaft splines
