Hi all!

I've got a 110 with a leaking transfer case seal between the transfer case and LT77. I've removed the transfer case on my Jeep CJ numerous times, and have a few newbie questions on removing the transfer case from an LT77/300 TDi; my search for "transfer case" in this forum answered some questions, but I still have a few left:

- Is there a reason the service manual and several posts suggest using an engine hoist to lower the transfer case rather than using a transmission jack? I will have the 110 up on jack stands, so I think I'll have enough space to slide it out while on the transmission jack.

- If I remove the x-brake, I have all of about 4.5" between the rear output flange and the middle crossmember. Is this enough space to remove the transfer case, or do I need to remove the rear output flange to give me that extra inch or so?

- I plan on removing the transfer case frame mount, but will leave the LT77 frame mount in place. Is the LT77 frame mount sufficient to hold everything in place?

- That O-ring on the intermediate shaft - is that just a common size available at hardware stores? I only ordered new seals for both the transfer case and transmission.

- Any other thoughts about what may trip me up?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

firstly you need an oil seal for transfer case, props off and it is straight forward with a jack, only watch point is bolts are put back in correctly or it can jam internally on forward facing bolts as slightly shorter than the rest.

Mornings work at most and some fresh oil.

Don't be ripped off for a seal from main dealers as you should expect to pay from bearmach or similar £11-15 for a complete seal and gasket kit .

Thanks - seals (transfer case and LT77) should be here today from Rovers Down South. Dealerships here rarely stock Defender parts anyway. Half day for most will likely turn to a full day for me :)
