110 tipper conversion

Does anyone know of a good supplier of these alloy rear bodies? I'd like to add a tipper to my Hi-cap when I get it but all the sites I look at want thousands of pounds for them! I'm after a used one, or at least one that's not going to cost me more than the base vehicle!

Make one?? You mean steal parts from a transit or similar and adjust the tub to fit? That's not a bad idea. Has anyone on here done a project like this?

I can't weld, not well enough to fabricate my own tub and supports. I was hoping to find a unit off of a crashed 110 or 130 and just bolt it on, but then that would probably cost too much to buy.

the transit tipper frame is quite slim so i reckon that would be ideal for the basic frame after being cut and welded. fasten the tub to it and your away. they are under ram tipping so the ram and all the pump ect should be quite tidey if done right.

So there may even be a chance I could use the original Hi-cap body on top of the transit frame then? Assuming I can provide enough support to the base of the tub? That would look nice but I've never seen it done before. I know a good welder if I need to make a few adjustments, I'm sure a crate of beer could sweeten the deal enough for him to help me out!

i cant see why not ? with a bit of thought and fabrication you should be able to cut up a transit under ram tipping frame and get it to sit inside the chassis of the land rover and fit snugley to the origional body. you should not have much trouble getting an old transit tipper frame with the ram and pump already with it for peanuts, i weighed one in for scrap this year when scrap prices were good. i had had it for years and never done owt with it and thought get rid it will never get used. i have a lot of ideas for mods to land rovers but as yet not got the workshop to do them.

Yeah, I've read a lot of your posts on the forum and you seem to know your stuff. I'm the opposite, I've got lots of kit and will soon have a good workshop but have no idea what I'm doing! I've just moved house and I'm building a good sized garage with a pit at the end of the driveway ready for a Land Rover build. Hopefully in a couple of months I'll be done and I can begin to learn as I go along. I get the feeling I may be pestering you chaps fairly regularly for ideas and help!

Seems easy enough eh.Ive got an old 3-way tip off a council iveco that i will pop on my 100"chassis if i need a tipper.Used many 110 and 127 tips and it seems that most are different.Dont think ive seen more than 2 or 3 the same.....
Get some light units from motor factors.The ones on our lt35 tipper are £30 a side.

i know a fair bit but im not an 'expert'. i have worked on the bedford 4x4 TK army lorries and the newer TM ones, also coles cranes and the usual haulage tractor units at a place in alfreton a long time ago.

ive also worked in an auto body repair shop jigging write offs back into shape and preping them for spraying. ive also dont a fair bit of spraying (auto and wood) as well as working on plant machinery. i didnt know a whole lot about cars untill i was 18 when i had my first LWB series 2a safari land rover, it was all down hill since then learning all i could.

i was always good at metal work at school and was the first person ever to start and finnish a working steam engine. after i did that i was given full run by the teacher to make what ever i wanted, going on to make a trike with suspension and then a bike with suspension, respoking the bike wheel using the drum brake off an old tomas peddle and pop motor scooter (had a thing about bikes with that back then 1983)

i like to think i am able to do most work on vehicles and fabricate things from bits and bobs and when i do i take great care to get them perfect. i dont like crappy jobs, it p*sses me right off to think a job isnt right. i just found the trailor lights socket fitted on my discovery has been botched with them crappy scotch locks even though there is a factory fitted plug for it. got the plug and wire off ebay and will shortly be changing it.

cant wait to get me work shop up so i can get cracking making stuff.
