Went to go on long trip yesterday cruising at 60 -70 then all power lost, never to start again. Piggy back home on top of a nice yellow lorry. Looks like fuel problems. Was not getting any pressure going into fuel regulator. Removed fuel pump nothing obvious. Checked the low pressure return and was getting little or no fuel through. Replace the fuel filter and lots of (low) pressure there now. Re-checked the pressure going into fuel reg (no guage), getting fuel pumping out steadily but not gushing out as I would expect for 4 bar stated in Haynes manual. Question: Is the high pressure side of the pump fubarred? or am I missing something? Quick replies would be appreciated so I can get a new one on the way as I am stuck in middle of nowhere and this is my only transport! Thanks guys (and lassies!)

Does it not even attempt to turn over ?

What you need is a Hawkeye tool to talk to the computer, might shed some light on whats happened.

Failing that I'd start checking the fuel lines themselves, could be gunk in the lines

Turns over very well battery in VG nick, also on permanent charge while I am working on it. Never attempts to fire. New pump on the way tonight so I will see how things go...

Just an update: New Fuel pump installed. After much purging and many minutes cranking it now runs! like a bag of nails though...
Seems to be running on only 4 of the5 pots. Next job to check/change injector oil seals. Any other suggestions out there?

good day,

I had exactly the same issue on one of the TD5. In fact it was a faulty wiring issue before the tank. One of the wire was damaged and my car was running on 5 then 4 then 3 legs and then on nothing. The pump was not gushing as you said until the moment where the power supply to the pump was too weak to send enough pressurized diesel to the injectors. I just fixed the wire and back in business in no time. May be this will help. Good luck to you and all the best

Ok changed injector oil seals and washers. Still ran like a tractor. Changed injector harness with one I had lying around. Hey presto the jobs a good un! Happy days.
