Eyup you lot, I'm wanting to lift the position of the trailer socket higher up to the rear crossmember (that offside oval shaped hole) , where they are out of the way of all the crap. I've been out and had a look at the crossmember for mounting holes for a bracket, but no holes jumped out at me as been obvious. just wondering if there is a genuine bracket used for this of whether people fabricate/make them.
thanks,
Tom.

I assume you are talking about a series vehicle rather than a 110/Defender here. That hole is actually for connecting a rear PTO to the transfer box, so there are not any holes for mounting your trailer socket there. Personally, I would use a standard socket mounting plate, and drill the rear of the crossmember to fit the plate.

If I've done this right there should be an attachment. If so this is the same set up as mine (not my vehicle though). I'm wanting to position it in that hole just above its current position.

Sorry, should have said 110 defender, its a 52plate td5 110 defender. thanks for the fast response anyway.
I understand now. Forgot about the TD5  That hole is for mounting the socket, but the problem is that fitting it there is a bugger. Quite often the plug won't fit through the hole in the back of the crossmember, and you have to drill mounting hole yourself.
