110 csw as second car

I've bought a 1994 110 csw, but it needs a few things doing to bring it up to snuff. I planned on insuring it alongside my peugeot 306 as a second car while I get it right enough to rely on as my only car, then ditch the peugeot at insurance renewal time.

So far I'm not getting any decent quotes. I'm 23 with 5 years ncb on the peugeot, no claims, no convictions. Comparison sites are saying upwards of £1k, and Lancasters quote was just over £5k.

Has anyone done this without paying a ridiculous price or am I going to have to wait until its up to snuff and insure it as my main car?
