Hi All
I have a 110 1997 300TDi van ex National Grid my questions are:-
1 Where should the coolant level be in the reservoir, its a black unit, so
there are no external marks. Do I fill it up to the centre seam half way up
or where?
2 It has BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tyres fitted LT 265/7.5 R16 What should
the pressures be? I some times tow a large trailer 3.5 ton but mostly its
motorway driving and short local runs.
I would appreciate your comments as I am off on a booze cruise tomorrow with
lots of motorway driving

near enough. If you peer inside, there's a post sticking up which is the
water level, but it's near enough half way up as makes no odds.

Try about 34 all round running light, see how it goes, and up the rear
pressure to about 38 if carrying weight or transferring weight from the
trailer.

that worked OK in similar sized tyres on my 110. Mine were 31x10.5R15, which
if you work it out is about the same width.

running the fronts softer will give you a softer ride, but tends to make
them wear unevenly, IME.

If it has not been tarted up I'd expect to find a sticker somewhere
giving the tyre pressures - the Utilities are into that sort of thing.

true, but then again, look at how much weight the 'leccy boys carry in 'em.
They'll be running the rears at about 48 lb...

Which is correct for high speed and/or high load - I run mine
at 48 all the time wich gives very good handling and wear.

pressures if running mostly unladen.

Slightly OT but what should pressures be for a largely unlaiden 90 on
235 x 85 x R16 (BFG AT's).

I tend to run at about 30 to 32 all round, any higher and it corners
like its on rails, until it lets go...quickly! Not sure if I am
getting outside edge wear on the fronts though, or if it needs
tracking up again!

I used 30 all round for my 90 on 235's - but they were Michelin OR's,
so any pressure couldn't help them.....

My 110 recovery unit runs 31-10.5x15's at 30 front, 45 rear, it weighs 2.5
ton (last time it was weighed about 6 years ago!). Tyre wear is even on all
4.

's what I say, though - you're carrying at least 1/2 ton in the back, hence
the need for higher rear pressures. Pressure can also depend on tyre make:
I fitted different tyres (Nankangs) and found that the pressure needed
upping a few psi - they were quite obviously wearing the fronts on the
edges.

I got a set of 238/85 BFG Trac-Edges for my 90 and Nene Valley (suppliers)
recommended 26/34. Worked fine for me. Good grip, even wear, no probs.
