Hi landy folk. After 3 years in the wilderness I'm aiming to return to land rover ownership. I had a 99 Disco 2 TD5 for a few years and despite a litany of faults (XYZ switch, ACE pipes, water pump, torque converter and head gasket) it was my favourite car. My budget will get me a tidy facelift one with about 100,000 or so or the pick of pre-facelift. Given the improvements of the facelift such as quieter, fewer squeaks and rattles and especially the steel dowels meaning a lessened chance of it stranding me on the French autoroute with a blown headgasket and 4 naffed off passengers like last time, it was initially my pref (even though I prefer the look of the pre-facelift). However some searching on here has left me confused about the likelihood of cracked head syndrome. Some threads suggest the 15P is stronger and others suggest it is even more prone. So it seems a hobsons choice, 10P and worry about the headgasket or 15P and worry about cracked head. Any pointers would be very welcome, has this debate been clarified at all now that both engines have been in service for a while? Thanks in advance guys. AJ
