Howdy all,

My dad's freelander (which he bought off me :D ) is fitted with 215/55 R16 tyres that need replacing. I've just bought 5 new Colway ATs for my Disco which I am VERY happy with, especially with the price!

Unfortunately though, they don't seem to make tyres in my Dad's size, the nearest I can get is 215/65 R16 which obviously have a slightly taller profile. Would it be okay to fit these onto the 16" rims? Would the only problem be knocking the speedo out slightly?

Would be very grateful for you advice.

Thanks!!

James

215/65 R16 is the correct and OE fitment for the freelander.

So the tyres he's got on now then are actually the wrong size?? Classic!

He'll be made up to be able to order some Colway ATs based on this info.

Many thanks guys!

James :)

What sort of a b*****d would sell a used Freelander to his own Father??
He must live at the other end of the country!!! (only joking (well sort of, anyway))
Cheers

What do you mean? It's only needed a new IRD, an oil leak fix, new coolant, and a new front window regulator since he got it in November.... oops...

It was fine when I sold it to him to buy my Discovery, honest!!

He broke the IRD doing the Old Coach Road with me in the Lakes.

Last november, I took a workmate out in his TD4 to do a route in Bala that was published in Land Rover World. I was in my Disco. He did over £800's worth of damage to his clutch and transmission.

I'm not allowed to play out with the freelanders anymore :(

I blame the drivers, not the car. ;-) I loved my freelander when I had it. It dinged and donged like hell underneath when I took it over the wayfarer, but apart from the clutch smell, it performed admirably.

They are slightly too small, but wont affect the vehicle. Tyres get smaller as they wear anyway.

Only concern I have would be from an insurance point of view - could be an issue if an accident occurred.

Regards,

Steve

That's a fair point! We checked the handbook (never thought of doing that in the first place) and it indeed does state that it should have 65's on. Ordering a set of five lovely Colway ATs tomorrow, £188 delivered! Bargain.

Thanks for all the help guys
