hi,
this isnt a proper restoration, its *meant* to be a fairly practical towing vehicle, that will be a daily drive aswell probably... it was orriginaly a 6 pot, but has been made a v8, well not anymore... it was getting a straighjt 6 diesel 4.2 from a nissan patrol, but that was very big and there was so much cutting around it wouldnt make sense. instead its getting a 2.8 daihatsu td, before any ranting, these are good strong engines, go on forever and run on veg....
so far the chassis repaires have been done and the engine and box are here, the rear body is back on the chassis aswell, just the hard bit now....:D the picture of the guy pointing (my old man) is showing where the rear gearbox output would be using the nissan lump...

looks a good project, have you thought of what fuel tanks you are fitting. I'll be doing a similar station wagon but I have found out about the various tanks you can get for Land rovers, Like you I want to use processed waste cooking oil and for the long range trips I want to have as much fuel storage as possible. I'm going to have a tank at the back of the rear axle and or a full width fuel tank under the rear seats or have left and right tanks under the front seats, I'll see what comes up cheapest I suppose lol.
The Station wagon I'm getting is only the rear body 4 land wheels and a gearbox and other bits and bobs lol. I want to get a chassis at a later stage but I will wait until some thing decent comes along at the right price. If I can I will get one with a log book and get things sorted, I want an engine with overdrive and not a turbo. If I move house things will move quicker and the build will progress faster. I want a garage but I only have a yard, moving house will sort out a lot of problems I think. Let me know how you get on with your build.
Cheers ALAN
