Hi guys, I wonder if anyone can give me a part number for the above detailed hub seal. I attach a photo which I have emailed to Paddock Spares and surprisingly they are unable to identify the part number. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RTC3528, £1.98 inc VAT as advertised on Paddock's web site? Personally you'd be better going for the whole overhaul kit at £21 or so as also advertised given you have to dismantle the hub anyway. Treat yourself to hub gaiters whilst doing so?

There is a way of changing it without pulling the hub apart. If you remove the spring from the new seal and un-thread it from itself to open it out, cut the rubber seal with a sharp knife and then cut the metal ring with a hack saw to complete the cut you can then open the ring and thread it round the axle tube (yes it will go, just. Best buy two replacements just incase though). Once over the axle thread the spring back into itself and locate it in it's original position, then install the lot into the swivel hub with the slit in the rubber at 12 o'clock. Put a smear of hylomar blue over the slit in the rubber for added peace of mind.

I did the drivers side on mine that way 4 years ago and the passenger side a year ago, both are fine.

That's great John. Thank you so much.

Bit confused by the photo - is it the seal that runs on the swivel ball you need? to help you identify it here's a link to the parts book. http://www.landroverweb.com/landrover/pdf-land-rover-manuals/ If it's the swivel seal there's a better cheat that doesn't involve cutting the seal. Remove the brake pipe and steering link, undo the six bolts holding the swivel ball to the axle and pull out the hub, swivel and driveshaft in one lump. The hub seal will fit over the axle end of the swivel.
