Hi i'm possibly getting a 2a 109 with the horrid freight rover 2.5 diesel in it, if i want better reliability/performance what other diesels can people recomend, i particularly like 6cyl's but open to suggestion? no fancy electronics, must be strong & simple, bit like me realy!!

What do the 4203 & 4236 come out of? & what is the model no for the phaser thats in a lot of teleporters?

I'm starting to wander if the 200tdi conversion is such a great idea, after reading about the problems with the crank pulley fouling the front axle. When considering an engine conversion for a IIA be aware that a conversion designed for a SIII will not necessarily fit. This it true for fitting a Transit engine (been there done that) - the starter motor is in the position where the clutch slave cylinder goes on a IIA.

When I go greenlaning, people are surprised how well my SIII goes with it's Transit engine. It can keep up with 300tdi Discoveries fairly well on the road. If the engine had a sealed timing case and flywheel housing it would be a perfect conversion for a Series Land-Rover. I do worry about the timing belt snapping due to getting covered in **** when greenlaning but it has not happened yet in 3 years use, 15K miles and greenlaning on average probably once a month. I do get problems with mud getting into the starter motor via the flywheel housing which is a pain in the ass, but there are no clearance issues with the axle or propshaft.

yu could av a 200tdi or perkins 4203 or 4236.thez loads to choose from, jus depend wot sort of performance ya want from ya land rover?
I.m looking for mid range grunt so i can travel thro' mid wales & pennines with minmum of gear changing!

I always thought you had to rev the transit motor a lot to make it pull? you do in the vans.

I.ve been out of the land rover scene for a long time (30yrs!!) how much wiring is involved with a 200tdi i've assumed you were onto engine management & such am i wrong?
If they are simple electronically then that is probably the way to go, find an mot fail/damaged disco.

If you have the 2.5NA 15J Sherpa engine it is a LANDROVER ENGINE fitted but with a different cover over the timing belt. You can change a belt in under an hour without draining the coolant.

Good engines if you get them going right.
