I see where you are getting at. Is this just for ease of getting out
of the back?
It is fairly tempting just to do away with the normal step and extend
my doors (I think i could do it so that it looked like a normal step
when closed) and then just bolt a normal landy rear step onto the rear
cross member or something.

That would be 10kg wouldnt it?. It must be heavier than that!.

I'm still considering the roof. An ally ladder and then a hand winch
and a little platform that the wheel can go on and then slide up the
ladder...

You did well... He may very well have carried on, until now, had you
not got away (actually, I have a great deal of time for Al, being as
he's a _very_ decent chap who would, and DOES go out of his way to
help people when they need it - but he can talk...)

Erm... I think I have.. I'd need to check but it was nowt special. Very
similar to the current one.. just covered in rust.

he's just offered to come over and have a look see and a help if I
wish. He does only live about 3 miles away!
