i wish.
just got me 200 tdi transplant back, wot a dissapointment.
accelleration no different to the old td engine(maybe slightly quicker, nowt to shout about)
as for top speed,it took about 2 miles to struggle upto 70mph(the old td would do this easier)
i was expexting a massive difference in both accelleration and top end
was i expexting miracles/too much?
are there any easy checks i could do to make sure the engine aint fooked
is there anything i could do to the engine to try and make it perform better(apart from burn the fooker out and start again)
cheers for any help/advice

summat's wrong, yer'v bin had - the difference should be phenomenol and you should be whooping in a sloppy mess of mansexwee - if yer int then they int dun it right! (oi take it yer went from a TD to a TDi?)

Check the turbo's been fitted mate, if it has make sure it's working, take the pipe off nearest to the inlet manifold and give the engine a rev up, it should blow your hand off.

1. Naff engine

2. dodgy air wiring (was it a TDi from a Disco?)

3. Other transmission problem.

What did they do to the engine before they put it in?

I had to be surgically removed from the drivers seat as i had glued myself to it when i had mine done, i think the good folk on ere got a bit fed up with me bleating on about it, bless em!

1 possible i suppose
2 yes it was from a disco(couldn't put the air filter housing in,so put a totally different set up in(off a citreon or summat ****)would this cause big problems,it does suck loads of air in?
3 such as??????
just changed filters and belts and put a clutch kit on swapped temp sender

can actually hear the turbo kicking in when you give it the boot ?

dont suppose yer tranny brake is part jammed on ?

try taking off the hose that's connected to the turbo inlet and go for a quick spin (but nowhere that's really dusty/dirty) - if the new air box is causing a poor air flow you's see/hear/feel the difference with the hose disconnected

cant say i can really hear the turbo
wats the tranny brake?i know fook all about cars
cheers mate

do us a favour cos - post a picture of the engine bay so we can have a look at it

did you hear the engine run before it was fitted ? - did whoever fit it also supply the engine and how much did it all cost

you should have gotten friction burns on yer eyeballs if all was working correctly (well according to what oddy would have ya beleive)

i'll try and get a picture on
didn't hear it,got it off ****bay from 'burton disco breakers'advertised as 'perfectly running 200tdi engine
i paid £255 for engine, rad and intercooler and £350 for fitting
'mechanic' had nowt to do with breakers

Something must be wrong. If you had the cam belt done have they checked the timing on the injection pump and flywheel.
Got mine off fleebay, off a guy who had a 300 and the breaker said a 200 would fit in, it didn't (well not easy). I didn't sleep for 2 nights till it was running. I think it has about 30bhp more, so you WILL feel it.

The difference between the TD and 200Tdi is HUUUUUUGE!
If it isn't then either you had a phenominal TD or you have a crap 200TDi.

You should easily get to 70 to enter a motorway and get up to 80 without any problems.

Like everyone else says-
Is the turbo working? You should be able to hear it whistle when the acceleration kicks in.
Does it lag at very low revs then accelerate faster when the turbo does cut in?

I would try disconnecting as much of the air intake system before the turbo to make sure that it's not the filter that is causing a restriction.
Also check the fuel system isn't blocked or restricted somewhere.

After that it's check the cambelt timings of the fuel injection pump.

100mph is just possible but not with the stock transfer box and a sane and healthy love of life.

sounds like your right to say "mechanic" - unless he is a registered charity (or was desiprate for the work) £350 isnt anywhere close to the amount of money it would take to do a proper job - remembering all the fluids to be changed, replacement parts such as new clutch, clutch release bearing, inner seals, cam belt, ilder etc - plus the cost of extending PS lines and bits associated with the air filtration - i doubt very much that the timing belt has been changed

forget about the increased top speeds mentioned - the real difference you should have noticed is how much more grunt the engine has got especially when going up the gears - the top speed will be increased but unless you put a 1:222 disco tranny box in you'll have to be screaming the nuts outta your 200 to get much past 80 ish - and what sensible person wants to be driving a 20 ish year old 90/110 over 80mph

as well as a picture of the engine bay it would be interesting to see what has been done to mate the engine into your existing TD exhaust, any restriction there would have a fairly dramatic effect on the performance

do i take off the 2 pipes from the intercooler to the turbo(1 to the front,1 to the side of the turbo)is there anymore pipes i need to take off to check air intake???
cheers
