1.8 GS -250 miles to a full tank???

Hi, i have a freelander 1.8 GS which I'm getting between 240-270 miles to a full tank of unleaded. Is this right as it seems very uneconomical to me to be getting this few miles to a tank. How much should I be getting and does the car have a fault? Any help appreciated.

What sort of driving do you do to get 20mpg at best? Foot to the floor at the traffic lights? Motorway at 60mph only? City driving mostly?

Freelanders and their owners receive a lot of **** taking on ere, especially the 1.8's. Stick wiff it and ignore the tratter boys. Uncle fanatic's ok though.

best you'll get is 27 mpg.

I get 31 mpg from my 1.8 doing a regular 23 mile commute sitting at a steady 50mph - just going with the traffic flow rather than overtaking etc. Surprised myself with this mpg but measured it over a few tankfuls, brimming the tank and noting the miles, each time it came out at 31

I get 30 mpg, 30 mile commute through Devon's finest rural lanes. Would suggest getting it serviced, as it should be better than that. My previous cars have been MGZS, MGF, and MGTF, all have same engine, and all returned around 30 - 34 MPG.

I get about 360 miles to every tank which I reckon is 30 mpg - mix of town and country. Had 2005 1.8xei for three years and make sure serviced annually and has never caused me any problems.

Thanks for the replies, I clearly should be getting better miles from it. I don't drive quickly or have a heavy right foot and I'm working it out at 17mpg. I've just filled up again from empty and it had done 260 miles. I'll get it down the garage.

It might just need a service and air filter replacement or could be something like the coolant temp sensor for the ECU (not the temp gauge) playing up and making the ECU think the car is cold when its actually hot so overfuelling, or a faulty oxygen sensor.

I actually get really good fuel econ from my 1.8 k series- have had 440 miles from a tank before, which is suprising considering what terrible condition its in! The latest is a rattle coming from the exhaust despite nothing being loose...

Mine had a slight rattle from the exhaust when I first got it - I traced it the the downpipe not being bolted to the sump - Put new bolts in and its been fine since.

Biggest change to fuel economy after driving style.

Check your not running 10 psi tyres.

just done 190 miles to £40 thats 6 gallons just over 31.66 mpg mines a 1.8 so think a good service is in order

31 is good for a 1.8 I would say

I get a regular 32mpg towing my caravan up hill and down dale, oh! bugger, sorry, just realised my Land Rover is a 'proppa' one, not a Hippo.
But don't feel bad, if you're getting through a full tank of fuel without breaking down, you're doing alright. :hysterically_laughi

But seriously... mine's a diesel and i'm a fairly useless female, these guys advised me to service mine and its made a hell of a difference, and i did it myself.. use landy parts and follow the haynes book, if i can do it so can you, bugger garage fee's
