1.8 exhaust differences

Hi could anyone tell me what the differences are between a complete exhaust system for a 1.8 engined freelander post and pre 2000. Are the systems different lengths or are the mounts in different places?

Has anyone successfully fitted an early system to a post 2000 car?

After 2000 MY2001 the manifold was fitted with a pre-cat and there is an additional O2 sensor in the exhaust after the second cat. So the 2 systems are different. The tail box changed pipes diameter to iirc.

Manifolds are different, late one has a pre-cat, early one does not
Downpipes are different, late one has 2 bolt fitting, early is 4 bolt
Cat's are different, late comes as part of the downpipe, early can be replaced alone
Centre sections are different. Late has 2 bolt fitting, early is 3 bolt
Rear silencers, I am lead to believe they are very slightly different, but they are interchangeable

My rear box is a twin exhaust. I've not seen one of those anywhere before and KwikFit recently suggested I wrapped it up in cotton wool as they won't be able to replace it!!

The twin outlet exhaust is the for V6 Freelander. It fits a TD4, no problem .

Early Td4 freelanders had the twin outlet exhaust rear box and then it was auto only until end of production.

For some reason this isn't reflected in Microcat!

Think it was changed for cost down on a manual and kept on an auto for pass by noise regulations

I would guess that the factory fitted what they had in stock. If they ran out of single outlet boxes, they simply used twins instead of stopping production.

hi I am all brand new to freelanders but I compared two today a 1.8 and I am sure its got the 2.0l engine at a breakers yard and the difference in diameter of the pipes was huge
