Freelander 1 1.8 3 door worth breaking?

Hi all,
First time in the Freelander section, normally over in the Range Rover section as have a classic.
Anyway, a friend asked me to remove a Freelander from his garage where it had been stood for 11 years.
Took some moving as brakes were seized solid! So, it's a 1999 3 door 1.8, approx 88k, 1 owner. It's not worth fixing up so I'll either scrap it or break it. I know nothing about Freelanders so my question is it worth breaking to sell the parts or is there very little demand? I've broken a few RR classics as these parts can be sought after.

There are some bits that are like rocking horse pooh - like if it has a parcel shelf in the back, probably worth more than a tatty road worthy car. also if it has the twin back seats rather than a 'bench' and has a cubby box between them!

If it has roof rails, there's always people buying cars without them that want them.

A good condition IRD is always worth salvaging - they're about £650 for a recon and fail often, so if its in good condition (check the oil) it'll be worth something.

The Wabco ABS modulators fail on these and need replacing. If you turn the ignition on and the 3 Amigos come on then go out (other than the ABS one which goes out at 5mph) then it should be working - although if its been sitting for 11 years, who knows how long it will go for. Only suitable for cars up to '99.

If I was after drive shafts, I think I'd go for good 2nd hand rather than aftermarket - they'll probably last longer - but are only suitable for Wabco cars unless the ABS stuff is changed (and only suitable for K and L series engined cars with PG1 gearbox).

There are not many pre 2000 cars changing hands these days.

Presumably everything else sells, just depends how quickly and what price. There are people breaking Freelanders.

Thank you very much for your detailed response. This really helps me decide what to do with it. I'll put a battery on it to see what lights up, although need to get the bonnet open first as the release mechanism has seized!
 
Definitely break it for parts, as you'll potentially make 10 times more than simple weighing it in. ;)
 
88k miles? It's barely run in! Shame it can't be saved. But yes, worth masses as parts - the low mileage probably means a decent diff, IRD and VCU. If the head gasket hasn't gone, the engine will be worth money. There's also a decent chance, if the car has been garaged all this time, that the rear door is corrosion free and has a decent door handle! And then there are all the other parts that GG mentions...

Thanks, still not done much with it. Put a battery on it and all the electrics work. Can now read the mileometer, only done 80k.
 
Personally I'd save it, but as said, it'll be worth more in parts at the moment sadly. Keep it in a garage for a few more years, and it'll be worth more! ;)
