P38A 1.6volts after 72hrs!

Check Eric the Car Guy on YouTube for chasing battery drain. I used a jump leads to bridge across a DVM so I could shut the bonnet. RAVE has how many milliamps the BECM has when active and asleep. 1.6V sounds like shorted battery though.

A couple of days ago, I checked voltage and it said 2.6v. I thought I'd misread it and it said 12.6v. I should have double-checked the reading!

Sorry Mike without details of the charger, I'm reluctant to recommend anything other than the lowest setting and I'd make sure the battery is in a place where if it were to split it would not do any damage.

I've borrowed and loaned in the past, but i couldn't borrow something of someone unless i was sure they would get it back in the same condition and when they expected it

Just to add to the charger info in this thread, I have a Ring Charge and Diagnose Smart Charger that does actually "recover" very flat batteries to the point they can be used to start a car. When starting recovery mode, it doesn't seem to do much for a few hours, but left overnight, I can generally get 70-80% in the battery. It certainly gets the battery good enough to allow time for ordering a replacement, although checking CCA afterwards still shows battery needs replacing.

In case you didn't find it, this is, I think, Wammers guide:-
BECM:
To test for sleep mode:

Switch off interior lights (hold central button on light above centre of dash for several seconds)
Open Drivers door window and close door.
Insert Ignition Key and turn to position 2
Turn to off and leave the key in the barrel
Open the drivers door and the key-in message will be displayed on the instrument pack
The interior lights should still be off.....
Wait for 2 minutes (sometimes closer to 2 minutes 30 seconds) for the BeCM to go to sleep
If you can still see the Key-In message then the BeCM is awake.

If the message has gone, and you do something to wake the BeCM (try opening the bonnet), you'll get a bleep from the dash. This indicates that the BeCM has been awakened.

If you do this with an ammeter in series with the battery lead you'll see the current draw around 0.6 to 1A when the BeCM is awake and more like 0.035A when it's asleep.

There’s a tell for if the becm is awake. You’d need good battery but there’s a light on the autobox glows then goes out when it’s fully asleep. Lots of stories people locking themselves in the night silently sitting there watching.

Thanks for this Keith. I saw a couple of YouTube videos, but they were different to this. Power cut overnight, so I had to restart the charger. Will give this a go tomorrow after continuously charging battery for at least 24hrs.
