08 tdci gearbox clunk

Hi all, we bought an 08 defender cht a fortnight ago from a main dealer, there seems to be a loud clunk from 1st to 2nd gear & 2nd to 3rd, Also there seems to be a dull thumping sound coming from under the load area just behind the bulkhead.

The faults were reported and they agreed to pick up the car, it has come back today, apparently having had a new clutch, the clunking and thumping noises as bad as before!!

If anyone can shed any light on theese problems it would help when i take it back, Fed up of being fobbed of!!

sounds like a transit,but welcome to the site

transit gear boxes are ****e, not used one in a defender but several in th tranny-made of cheese

burn it out and fit a tdi...

I also have tdci with the same problem clonking when changeing from 1st to 2rd and 3rd. dealer told me it could be clutch or transfer box or at worst gearbox out put shaft, they just dont no without a full strip down and £3000 bill, my puma is 2008 with only 30.000 miles.
