More than likely a VERY Stoopid question, but my mate has volunteered me to show his mate how to change the engine oil on his (new to him) 08 Fender.
I'm assuming this will all be nice and straightforward??? I've only ever been underneath my 300Tdi, so this Fender is far newer than I'm used to.

As usual some of the oil will be on the outside, but most of it will be on the inside ... :D

As with gearboxes and axles .. make sure you can get oil in before emptying any oil out!

I can normally do an oil and filter change in 7 minutes. The fuel filter takes a bit longer, about 20 minutes..What takes longer is seeing all the other things when your underneath that need doing.

Don't know what earlier models are like, but the drain plug on the '08 is on the vertical face of the sump rear. Seven litres of sump oil likes to shoot out horizontally when the plug is released. Don't ask me how I know I just know ok?

Does the sump plug need a new copper washer like on earlier engines?

If its like mine, no. The sump plug has an integral rubber seal as per many ford engines (it is a ford engine). Inspect the seal and replace the plug if the seal is cattle trucked. I've reused the same plug several times and its still ok. It does need torquing to the correct value so as not to damage the seal.
