Hi Guys
Im new to the forum and im looking to buy a Freelander.
The price I can afford i can get an '05 1.8 petrol freelander with 10k on the clock. (£11,500)
The only reservation is the fuel consumption, at the moment i have an Audi A3 1.6 petrol which does around 35-36 mpg

Should I bother with a Petrol freelander?
Thoughts??

Welcome!

Just have a read back on the previous threads Reguards the petrol models
Think that should make your mind up for you:rolleyes:
For £11k you should be able to pick up a very nice td4 with all the extras
Im my opinion its the only one to go for:eek: ;) :D

Mind you ,lookin back at any of these theads will probably put you off em for life!!

Welcome to the nut house :D

I have to agree with Mondo on this point. 1.8 litre petrol model is underpowered, drinks juice and is not the most reliable power plant in the range.
Go for the TD4, it's the best option I reckon. TD4 sounds nice too ;)

A big welcome hburdin ,and yes agree wiv other two, go for td4 the other diesel series wasn't to bad, the v6 is a right power house [but drinks juice faster than Mondo do's alcohol] but its your call but best ta do yer home work first, best oh luck. . .:)

Sounds nice? eeeeeeerrrrrrrrr no, a V8 sounds nice

An old american V8 sounds nice. One of these where the pistons seem to be unable to get synchronised. Those who go like flop-flop-flop etc...

(in the old days, my young days, speaking of the '60's, I had a Morris Mini 850, I bought an old exhaust of a mate of mine, it was an Abarth for a Fiat 850 which had the engine in the back, so I saw off that exhaust to have a little straight pipe coming out of the exhaust itself, of the Mini I saw off the exhaustpipe near the middle of the car and fixed the Abart to the remaining part of the mini exhaust line, as the noise was not enough I thought of putting a tube inside the innertubes in the middle of the chroom twin pipes, this to block the holes in these innertubes which muffled the noise but when I punched the one tube half in it I couldn't move it any further in nor out, so I took a large hammer and started to bang on it, result was that the whole innertube came out and just the chroom last pipe was left, started the car and the noise was much better so I repeated everything and got also the inside of the 2nd pipe removed, when I gave some good gasshoots all the glassfiber inside came out so the exhaust was just an hollow metal case with two beautiful shiny chrom tubes coming out and the noise was fantastic, on light trottle it sounded like a real american V8, unbelievable it was the noise I got from such a tiny 850 cc.:) :) :) (If the above is boring lecture, just hit the delete button please but when i saw the above entry of the V8 sounds nice it came all back in my memory. )

You dream on willo!

I for one love your little stories, and yer photos aswell,
Mini's, Opel mantas, Lotus sunbeams, them were the days willo,
propper motors and no need for electronic wizardry and emmition controls.

good on yer willo!

Tnx mondo,

No other story available off hand now but it's time for my beautysleep anyway, so it'll be till tomorrow you all. Ciao.

Don't buy a petrol Freelander. For the money you are talking about get a td4 with the BMW engine and you won't go far wrong, if you wait a couple more months they will be giving them away as the new Freelander is due.

Dear Willo, back in the 60's I was in the army, and my transport from home in Wales to my base in Kent was a 850cc mini van, sliding windows, cable pull to open the doors, and that crappy little bit of hose between the head and the block that looked easy to replace but ended up a major job!! But it never let me down and I sold it to my boss who ran it delivering all sorts of stuff for another ten years, his son then learned to drive in it 1987 and then it went to the big scrapyard in the sky.

I remember watching a bloke, posing, in a realy nice red mini cooper (big noisy exhaust) driving round and round the seafront at Whitby and up Kyber pass bank. On his fourth lap, turned out to be his last, he put his foot down, going round the bottom turn, a left hander going up the bank,

Exhaust growling, front tyres sceaming,The door flew open and he fell out!!!
Everyone burst out laughing as he sat in the road watching his mini grind itself along a wall
Cruel sense of humor some folks!!!!!!
could'nt help but giggle though:D

Is This turning into Jackanory now????
