04 Defender - Few Fault Codes After Map

Evening,

Driving around today the 110 started kangarooing when trying to accelerate in 2nd (has done this twice now, when cold) plugged in the Nanocom and got the following -

2,8 ambient pressure circuit
- Not sure on this one?
3,7 air flow circuit - logged high
- MAF is dead? - Second time this one has come up after clearing (once before map once after)
4'3 coolant temp circuit
- Dont know this one
31,1 injector 1 open circuit detected
All injectors read the same fault
- Injector Harness? No oil in red plug as of two months ago, but will check again.

Boost box has been fitted by TD5inside.

Cleared everything off but will check if they come back.

Ambient pressure fault code is triggered by the AAP sensor(the one in the airbox), coolant temp si about the coolant temp sensor or it's wiring... if a boost box was fitted the MAP sensor's input is limited so there will not be overboost cut out regardless of the real boost, the injector loom and MAF are a good start though that air flow high can be real cos as the ECU doesnt know the real boost due to the boost box at higher boost than the overboost limit the suction through the MAF will be higher than the limit too and if it exceeds 680 the management cuts fuelling for turbo overspeed protection .,..also at such high suction the presure drop in the airbox can be higher than expected so the ambient pressure fault code.... you should get rid of the injector codes after the new harness is fitted but you can expect those other codes without a sensor fault and that's the effect of that frigging boost box which IMO is the worst thing ever for the Td5 engine....shame on those who keep selling them after all the developments in the remap business.
 
@sierrafery that all makes sense. Ive always been against boost boxes myself, Jose convinced me they where fine to use, guess not so much. Would fitting the Alive uprated MAP be a better solution? Though I assume the map would have to be adjusted to suit it.

Ill double check the AAP is conected, if not how does one solve the issue?

Same for the coolant sensor, does the fault mean the sensor needs replacing?
 
Hi Bankz,

Sounds a bit worrying if Jose is recommending something that is not running correctly. Have you tried calling him to get his thoughts? after all he is the one selling all this upgrade kit including posting videos on FB etc.

I thought he was doing remaps , turbo changes etc on a staged improvement basis. Like the other remap boyos do.

Yeah slightly concerning though I trust the fella, doesn't seem like the type to screw people over plus from following TD5inside for the past 2 years i've never seen a bad word said about him/them. Which is why I'm thinking its possibly faults down to my Defender first before blaming him if you get what I mean.

I went the whole hog basically, full blast from the get go. Didnt see the point in staged upgrades, so Allisport IC, Provent, Hybrid turbo, 22psi boost, Pipercross filter, silicone hoses and strong map to match it.

To start with everything ran fine and as mentioned some of the issues cropped up before the map, I just cleared them off and carried on.

Either way new MAF, new Leoni harness, new gen rocker gasket.

When you say boost box, I take it this is a bolt on unit that replaces the need of remapping the ECU, in comparison to what the others do. Or am I missing something?

Replied pretty quick, agrees its probably the MAF being dud. Doesnt believe it to be the boost box as that would throw up its own code. Got to check a couple other things but im stuck a boring old work far from my Landy!
 
The boost box would not throw a fault code but being there if let's say the wastegate is stuck closed or the valve is shot the boost can rise to a dangerous level without even knowing it and if the MAF is failed too you can boost the sh*t out of the engine and ruin the head if you see what i mean...if you have nanocom see the live ambient pressure reading, it should be around 100 but to not drop more than 2-3 units under load also the MAF should be max. 650 unser heavy load
 
Precisely, exactly why I fitted it tbh. Stack unit so I can trust it. I havnt seen the boost go above 22psi though I havnt been out in it much, I'll check the AAP when I get in. What am I looking for with the MAF 650max?
 
there is other scenario when you have boost gauge fitted is that the wastegate to not close well then the turbocharger is spinning much faster to get the boost up(and the MAP reading is vitiated by the boost box) while the suction is high so LR made a second protection as to cut fuelling when the air flow exceeds 680 for turbo overspeed protection... form all the Td5 data logs i've seen, and there were many if everything is OK the MAF doesnt get above 650 at full load, actually it's between 550 - 650 depending on some condition(weight, road incline, ambient temp, driver demand, etc)
 
Thanks, so a sticky wastegate could also be causing issues?

Im guessing its air flow 650 at full boost/full load
