Hi,

I have a 2003 Discovery with a recently replaced engine which has been running fine, a few weeks back the turbo went as well as an EGR pipe, so I replaced the Turbo with a used unit and installed an EGR delete kit.

All seems to be running fine and the power level is very good again, but I have the following fault:

When you try to rev past 3000 revs it would Kangeroo like it was cutting the fuel supply. Taking advice that it was a Turbo preasure problem I switched back to my orginal (and vastly differently adjusted) wastegate controller module (the thing on the turbo) and although I now have a little less power the Kangeroo issues have no moved to around 3800-4000 revs.

I am now thinking that it may be the module that control the wastergate module (the unit mounted on the AC compresssor with the electrical connector and the vacuum line in and out of it).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have no warning lights and everything else seems fine and she runs very well again apart from this rather low limit for the revs.

Thanks in advance.

Could the wastegate rod need adjusted?

I have played around with the length of the arm on my TD5. One turn of the adjuster makes a large difference to the amount of boost. if the adjuster is screwed towards the front of the car (made shorter! ), the boost is increased. I think I have got this the right way round

Could the rod have been adjusted too short between swapping the turbo over? You might be hitting max boost and the ECU is cutting it back.

If you had access to a Nanocom you could check what was happening with the boost, or just experiment with half turns on the adjuster. I marked mine with a hacksaw on the threads before I started tinkering.

Cheers

Im going to have a play and adjust this in a minute. Just gone to change the injector harness. When I got to it, I noticed it looked new, the ID tag had an order date of Mar 08 so the previous owner has already tried to sort this kangeroo problem and sold the car on. I get this problem from time to time. Car behaves in 3 ways:

Fast revving to over 4k (aka normal power delivery i assume)
Slow revving and struggling to get past 3-3.5k
Kangerooing

Really annoying as if I go to overtake, I can never be sure if its going to drive properly or start arsing around

It may be worth checking the hoses from the turbo to the intercooler and intercooler to the inlet manifold. I've seen this hoses collapse from the inside and this becomes a flap inside the hose which comes down and restricts the air flow but only under higher revs.

I've had similar problems and checked wastegate sticking, renewed hose clips checked pipe etc, etc. Has anybody got an process guide to the control of the wastegate and the interaction of the sensor on the filter box, the air mass meter, the sensor in the middle of the pipes to and from the wastegate and charge air pipe. If so would be curious to understand the operation and control.
