Hi All,

Not been around for a while as my TD4 has been behaving itself.

That was until yesterday, while driving along the engine died with the engine management light coming on,there was no warning just power went. It turns over but will not start. When it happened there was no smoke or steam from the exhaust, looked normal.

I listened to the engine and I can hear fuel going through the cooler, but the fuel pump noise is not as high pitched as normal.

I have it at the recovery agent at the moment waiting for Monday so I can get it to a dealership.

I was thinking the fuel pump had died, anyone else had this type of problem?

Thanks,

Gray.

this is common . . . .fuel filter change furst. . . .then pump pressure check ,go into search bin er lot written on this subject,un best oh luck earthling :)

Oh well, live and learn or is it live and don't learn?

Fuse was blowen.

Runs and hides!

At the time, roverrons synergy unit was inline and functioning on both the MAF and fuel pressure sensor.

So when I get the car back today I will put it back in and check if there is something wrong.

Of course this is a second hand car to me, so I suppose someone could have put in an incorrect fuse at some point in the past.

Has anyone else had issues with the synergy unit stressing fuses? Just wondering if it just pushes the default fuse a bit and maybe I should uprate it and amp or two?

Fuse F1 was blown which according to haynes is the "Glow Plug, Fuel pressure regulator, Boost solenoid, EGR solenoid and MAF sensor"

The dealership put in a 20A, but according to haynes it should be 15A. Anyone else using 20A?

Well we can eliminate the synergy unit as this problem is reoccuring with out it in line.

The only consistant elements;

Engine running for 15-20 mins.
Significant throttle demand as engine fuse blows (has only happened pulling away from lights / overtaking).

Unfortunatly this is proving impossible to recreate after recovery and I getting no where fast (besides running up a big recovery bill!)

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gray.

try disconnecting the solenoids for erg and turbo boost, see if this eliminates the problem also check condition of the wiring to them, could be a wire grounding /insulation worn away and causing a short, somwhere to start looking ,
best of luck

hi m8,the early td 4 did sufer from engine harness chaffing,check the harness from the high presure fuel pump back over,if its cut any where from there back over change it.

Update;

I think it has finally died and won't start. The yellow relay in the engine fuse box marked "engine symbol with lightening" I think F4 rattles like something not right with ignition switched on, cranking causes fuse to blow.

Ho Hum.

tell em to carry out the work. But specify that you'll only pay if it cures the problem. They'll soon come up with the real cause.

Update:

ECU power and Glowplug power were trapped by the inlet manifold (thanks for the build quality landrover!) and had worn on each other over time.

Removed inlet manifold and replaced cables and all is now well.

What a problem to try and find thought!
