01 p38 coil pack problem!

Hey guys I'm new here and hope you can help. My 01 p38 just took a dive. The coil pack controlling #1 cylinder is failing to fire #1 only. Cylinders 2-8 are excellent. Can someone help?

There are 2 coil packs located at the rear of the engine. Easy enough job to change if you have small hands.

Thanks for the reply masonsjeep. The problem that confuses me is that it's only affecting #1. I tested the wire and it's fine, I attatched #7 wire to #1 on the coil and it didn't fire. It's definately the coild, but that's what's confusing. Can a bad coil have an affect on only one of the cylinders it supplys power to. My thought was if the pack goes out, it would affect all cylinders, 2-8 produce an excellent spark. Thoughts?

No, it can and usually does only affect 1 or 2 of the cylinders. when you change it just make sure you get the leads back on in the correct order.

I thought a coil pack failing would always result in 2 cylinders down as it fires 2 cylinders at a time?

They do operate on the 'Wasted Spark' principle as Martyn says...it fires two cylinders at a time!
