hi all, i was on the way to get the turkey on xmas eve . was doing about 50 mph and the disco started spluttering and smoking , ive never seen smoke like it, it was horrendous. as i was pulling over the revs went right up without me putting a foot on the accelerator so had to stick it in neutral , when i came to stop it was still smoking like mad and the revs were going up and up . the disco would not turn off so had to stall it to stop the engine , on checking the oil it had lost over half of it . called the rac got towed home and ive not tried to start it since ( too scared ) think it might be the turbo but not sure, any help or advice greatly appreciated .

Turbo feeding off the oil in the sump you've been really lucky to kill it before it self destructed.

cheers , so hopefully it will just need a new turbo then . its an L reg and has done 120,000 in decent nick and mot till aug , do you reckon its worth forking out 400 odd quid for a new turbo and then the labour costs not sure how bigger job it is to change one ,
or shall i just take the whole truck to bits and flogg it for spares.

Changing the turbo is an easy job just unbolt the whole manifold and 2 oil feed pipes. I'd go for A 2ND hand turbo from a breakers as you can take it back if it's knackered. half a day max to change the whole thing over.

If you want I can come over and give you a hand once I get back down south next week.

someone i know has a 300 tdi second hand turbo for sale for 120 quid , will a 300 tdi turbo fit a 200 tdi disco

If no luck buy a disco and take the turbo off then sell the rest for spares. and make some money out of it as well
