rear heater problem

Hi

My 02 TD4 has recently developed a problem with the rear window heater ( demister ) after some consultation via 'Haynes' manual, i replaced the heater switch and relay ..(the fuse was fine.) still no joy
I havent found any obvious damage to wiring, so thinking the problem must be with the CCU . Has any one out there had similar problems with heater ...or is it possible to check out the CCU..read somewhere its possible to 'calibrate' the CCU to each electrical component!!.....anyone? .

Check the contacts, they have a tendency to corrode off, take the panel off the rear door (and the weather shield) and look just inside the latch, you will see where they connect to the screen, one of mine has corroded off, going to look at it after attacking the door regulator...

Does anyone know how to reattach one of these contacts, is there a 'pukka' way to do it, or can you just solder it on??

you'd be hard pushed to solder it effectively, as you can't generate enough heat on the contact, due to the glass acting as a heat sink.

Years ago, with a different car (austin metro) I rubbed the contact down with emery paper, then bought some conductive paint from halfords. I brushed the paint onto the element terminal, then held the contact on until it was dry. Once it was dry, I built up around the joint with araldite. This was still working after about 3 years when I sold the car.

remember to a) use methylated spirits to clean the glass first b) use masking tape to give the araldite a clean edge. Think I built up a patch about the size of a pound coin.

After the tag has dried put another coat of paint over the top covering the tag an the surrounding contact area. Let this dry before applying the Araldite. In this weather the glue may not go off properly if it is too cold or humid.
I have also seen this done before but with a short lead soldered to the tag to avoid having to push the Lucar connector against the tag

of course assuming you have checked for voltage at the connectors and eliminated any wiring issues / fuses...

If it is the contact come away from the glass I did manage to resolder it using a "domestic" type soldering iron. You can get at the contacts with the window dropped a couple of inches.

All i need now is a decent cd manual to 'operate' on my lander..the 'haynes' manual is ****-poor....bin told to look on ebay, is there any particular one to look out for?

Oh, and hi geoff ( greenie) thought you said this lot on here were useless b.....s'....well i think they are thoroughly nice chaps very helpful....and as for getting my 'doris' to sit in the back with a shammy..:frown:well what sort of an answer is that..any way she said no :frown:

Al.. You can have a copy of my CD if you like... The CD aint a lot better
than the manwell, un yep, there all the same..

Have you tried a volt meter on the window conections, just to see if you have power there!

Got the Alternator off today, now i waiting fer the new wun to arrive!
